Re: 3 dB HYBRID COUPLER/ISOLATOR FOR ANTENNA SPLITTING 100 KHz -10 MHz

SDR receivers like the SDRplay do not have a local-oscillator. They do have an oscillator but it has no mixing functions or other stuff. It's just a clock to make the chips tick, there is no RF to mix it with or such. The oscillator has 2 purposes, that is a reference and a steady clock for the chip...

Re: 3 dB HYBRID COUPLER/ISOLATOR FOR ANTENNA SPLITTING 100 KHz -10 MHz

What happens when you simply split with T-connectors? With my websdr I did such, the signal levels did drop a bit, but that is a non issue as the s/n-level-range is enough to compensate. I have ordered an 8-way splitter but not installed yet. My question is this: Why do we need insulation between 2 ...

Re: Antenna Questions (RSP-2)

Have you tried connecting the coax to port A or B and go from there? As you already have a balun outside transforming to 50 Ohm. As for blowing the box to pieces, that is not going to happen unless you connect a transceiver to it directly or close. The ports are protected against ESD etc and they ca...

Re: How do you down load the RS-API ?

Well, Firefox did solve the mystery as to where the file is coming from:

Code: Select all

wget https://www.sdrplay.com/software/SDRplay_RSP_API-Linux-2.13.1.run
Tada!!!

Re: How do you down load the RS-API ?

You can upload it with FTP or SSH, simplest way is to download mc (midnight-commander) then make an SSH connection to the Pi. Normally it will tunnel SFTP and transfers the file to where you want. Then go into the Pi with SSH and "chmod +x filename" and ./filename to run it. mc for Windows: https://...

Re: S-METER READING

I was talking about the S-meter as instrument to measure signals on HF that are not lab-conditions. As an instrument measuring e.g. power in a lab it's perfect as the conditions are always the same and all variables are known. But to give signal reports on areal radio stations it's not very useful. ...

Re: S-METER READING

There you make a mistake. The S-meter only gives the sum of signals at the input, there is no way it will tell the real strength unless your noise floor is 0 volt and this is never the case. I have seen many cases where the s-meter read 9+20db and the other station was barely audible, the reading wa...

Re: S-METER READING

The only thing you measure is the voltage at the input-plug of the receiver. It doesn't say anything about the signal, antenna-system, cable losses, conditions in the sky, etc. Also, on HF it's 50μV for S9 but on VHF 5μV, so on VHF you should see a different reading. But it's just that, a μV number ...

Re: Cheap but usable wire?

Hi Trevor, You can use cheap steel-wire with a zinc coating of about 2mm thick. A roll of 100m will cost about 20 euro/pound and insulators can be found for horse-electrical-fences. Most simple and effective antenna is a single wire of about 50m long en some counter like a fence. Just Google for "si...

Re: S-METER READING

We Ham Radio Amateurs call the S-meter a Fun-meter or Lie-detector, just depends if the reading is good or bad for you. Don't think anything of it, it's just a reading that you can use to compare signals for yourself and nothing else. Any reading you get has no meaning and also can't be compared to ...
