Re: Broadcast Stations overloading front end

I live about 3 miles from a 50 KW AM station, used to cause issues with my RSP-1, bought a BCB filter off ebay, the little black ones, and had no more issues... I have several spectrograms of the entire 80 meter, 40 Meter, 30 Meter, etc., bands shown in an article on using an SDR to inventory the RF...

Re: First setup VHF 118-160 MHz

I would certainly give that a try to start with... If you are 9 miles from where you want to receive, you should have no issues at all, assuming the feedline and antenna are still functioning. Polarization might be an issue.

Re: RFI

If you are interested in what various RFI sources look like on an RSP-1 I have a catalog of them I am starting at: https://www.nk7z.net/rfi-snapshots/ It is broken down by category of RFI. An SDRPlay RSP-1 was used for all the black and white images. There are also several other articles referenced,...

RFI Signatures via SDR

Hello, I have created a page of RFI snapshots, as captured by SDR. The images were taken by various people, using various equipment, of any number of RFI sources, all of which have been identified. While this is not a fingerprint, it can help you in deciding what you are looking for with regards to ...

Re: Frequency Sweeps? What? Who?

Here is a thought experiment... Imagine you are listening to WWV, now imagine I live next door and am running an ionosonde at 1 watt. From your viewpoint, you would see the same behaviour, sweep swamping WWV. Unless you have all data, you can not infer anything about output power of one station from...

Re: Wideband low noise antenna possibility

Hi, I use a T2FD antenna, and have some actual results from it you can look at here: http://nk7z.net/sdr-rfi-survey-p1/ This is a short article on using an SDR as a RFI survey tool. Almost every spectrogram shown was taken using a BWD-90, T2FD. It is wide band, and about 6 db down from a dipole... I...

Re: Frequency Sweeps? What? Who?

They typically use around 100 watts, not much power, and if you look at the scans, you will see some of them bypass the ham bands. The info is so useful, that no one really worries about the QRM.
