Re: What’s going on here ?? Receiving but no antenna
Screen shot of AM Broadcast Band at 1830 local time received with 2 inch (5.08cm) hookup wire antenna connected to the Hi-Z port (P terminal ) of the RSP2. MW stations are very strong, it's not uncommon you need to lower the input-gain a lot. Mostly it's even enough to just hold something near the ...

Re: What’s going on here ?? Receiving but no antenna
What happens if you shorten the open side? As long-mid-wave antenna's in old transistor radio's used to have an antenna build on just a ferrite rod. Typical working 0~3 MHz. Have a look: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~www_pa/Scots_Guide/RadCom/part7/page5.html Maybe your core acts the same? Is the on...

Re: Extending the range of a Discone antenna down to 3.6 MHz
I found this bit of information and they state: Additional vertical element on discone Often discones will be seen with an additional vertical element attached to the top of the antenna. This is often the case when they are used as a scanner antenna. This additional vertical element on the discone h...

Re: Extending the range of a Discone antenna down to 3.6 MHz
Thanks a lot for making it clear, I was totally confused and puzzled.
Now it makes perfect sense.

Re: Extending the range of a Discone antenna down to 3.6 MHz
Did you try to transform the 50 Ohm Discone antenna to a higher impedance? The Hi-Z isn't 50 Ohm but 1000 Ohm, the voltage/amp levels going into the Hi-Z should be more suitable for it. I do not know what the impedance is outside it's design frequencies but it may be worth trying to calculate it and...

Re: Extending the range of a Discone antenna down to 3.6 MHz
One thing you forgot to mention. Does it work better? Did the noise level go down as I said it would? For people that have no clue what we are talking about, let me explain in simple words. Coaxial cable has 3 conductors, what you say???? Yes 3 conductors, let me show you: 1: The inner conductor, th...

Re: Extending the range of a Discone antenna down to 3.6 MHz
Antenna is mounted on a 1.8 m pole on the roof and comes to the RSPduo via a 20 m length of RG 58 coax cable (50 Ohm). What I immeditely noticed was that the Discone was 5 to 10 dB noisier than the Beverage and this kept me thinking all the time. Furthermore I could see a hint of signal coming in a...

Re: RSP2 - A bit confused with connecting antennas
If you have a bit of room, the most simple and perfect working LF/HF/VHF(50MHz) antenna is the G5RV. You do not need to do anything special, just have about 33m of space between 2 trees and a bit of coax. Because of the matching section it will perform incredibly well on most band up to 50MHz, most ...
