Re: LW-MW-SW Relay Tuned 15' Noise Reducing Vertical Antenna

... very significant improvement at 3.65 MHz, as proven by the screen enclosed below. No toroids yet, but I keep looking forward to them. Rather than hula hops, I am thinking of an all stainless steel (or copper) square made with tube shafts tapped at the ends and screwed into machined corner ends. ...

... at building something for themselves, as large as their living space will permit. At the end of the day, if it is to be a small loop then try the hula hoop! https://www.sdrplay.com/community/search.php?keywords=hula Large or small, these loops are simple antennas with simple feed systems that ...

Re: Antenna for SAQ reception with RSP2

PA0MHE. Me again. OK, I've just found a few notes I made when I was building this LF loop. The hula-hoop is about 80cm diameter and there are six turns of wire threaded through the tube. This gives 125 uH and to tune it to 20 kHz took (get this) 470 nanofarads or 0.47 ...

Re: Antenna for SAQ reception with RSP2

Thanks for your quick answer. The good news is that I live on a very rural area with neighbors a mile away. For the homemade hula hoop you used an preamp, why can this not directly connected to the High-Z differential input from the RSP2 ? Do you remember how many turn you used for this ...

Re: Antenna for SAQ reception with RSP2

... very noisy in an urban environment. However, the 1530 falls off below 30 kHz and only just receives SAQ, so I built a similar loop using a plastic hula hoop with a few turns of wire inside and a simple amplifier similar to the PA1m design. I put a large capacitor across the loop to limit its response ...

Re: Longwave Antenna Reception For Apartment

... well from about 30 KHz to 30 MHz. As I have an interest in even lower frequencies, I built an 'almost copy' of the Wellbrook using a 3 ft plastic hula hoop and a plastic electrical conduit junction box. 5 turns of wire inside the hoop with the ends feeding my own version of the simple PA1M balanced ...

... where the Wellbrook begins to fall off, and now I can hear the 17.2 kHz SAQ transmissions at good strength. The loop element itself is a plastic hula-hoop with four turns of wire. I think I broadly tuned the loop with a fairly large capacitor to 'hump' the tuning up a little at the low end. It ...

Re: Loop Construction

Gazza, is this for a tuned loop with a capacitor at the top or a wideband untuned (active) loop? If it's for an untuned loop, I use a plastic hula-hoop with a turn of thick wire inside.

Re: The Hi-Z connection

... to be alone on this; the technology involved is proven and used by those whom I respect. Since it works fine with a simple long-wire and home-made Hula-loop, with any connection used, there is patently obviously zero wrong with my RSP. I can undersstand that the ferrite mix in the mini-balun (in ...

Re: The Hi-Z connection

... on. I (hope that) I'm learning all the time and will, of course, try the direct connection as you suggest and just for the record, the indoor hula-loop works just fine (within it's capability) on the Hi-Z also, via pig-tail with balun and seems surprisingly good. As for the bad performance ...
