Shortwave sensitivity seems low

Post by pa1ap » Tue Dec 22, 2015 8:55 pm

Hi,

Got the SDRPlay to work on linux using CubicSDR and control is going smooth right now. Next challenge is the (lack of) sensitivity where only very loud signals actually come out of the noise. Looking at the schematics it seems there is no antenna preamp included for HF. Maybe thats the change I need to include? An additional amplifier stage? Best regards, Onno

Hi PA1AP - did you manage to figure it out? If you are still having problems , just email support at support@sdrplay.com Jon

PS for other newcomers, a common mistake can be having the Gain reduction set too low (a small number means huge gain and the whole thing overloads giving the impression that the receiver isn't sensitive!). For SSB on say 14MHz, using HDSDR, you should have no LNA and the gain reduction set to around 60dB Jon
