The SDRplay is my first encounter with software defined radio – I’m very impressed.
Over the years I’ve had many receivers, such as the Eddystone 840, Trio 9R59DS, Kenwood R2000, and Yaesu FRG7700. They varied in sensitivity, selectivity, and stability – and cost much more than the SDRplay.
From what I’ve seen so far, the SDRplay beats them on all counts.
The key difference using an SDR receiver, is that you get a wide spectrum display of where stations are active on all bands – much better than hopefully twiddling a tuning knob to see what turns up. You can easily move to another station with the click of the mouse button.
I’ve got a lot to learn about how SDR works – there are so many options and settings.
Having done some computer programming in my time, I appreciate the work that must have gone into making this system work – the colourful user interface, the Fast Fourier Transform data processing, the tie in with the computer’s USB and sound output. – brilliant.
I look forward to many hours of pleasant listening using the magnificent SDRplay.
