new to sdrplay

I am new to sdrplay but not rtlsdrs. Had difficulty getting the thing to pick up even NOAA, so I didn't know if it was working or not. Today, I updated windows vista, and started with a clean slate, got it to pick up some stations. There is allot of static here in the HF range, my r1000 won't even pick up anything so I know the sdrplayer is not at fault. It is much more sophisticated than the rtlsdr with over load problems.
Of the 3 programs sdr# works the best so far. I am waiting for sma cables and adapters from eBay to connect to my antennas better
