What does the [DIGITAL] button do?

Today's my day for asking the questions that for some reason I can't find a way to answer myself I guess...

To the right of all the modes [ AM ] [SAM] [ FM ] etc. is [DIGITAL].

What does the [DIGITAL] button do? Does it just change the equalization of the audio output?

This time I even looked in the manual before asking.

It just has some preset filter bandwidths useful for digital modes
