Sr. Citizen Questions, Please Re RSP2, Please

Hello,

Am in my 80's now, so please bear with me a bit.

Really looking forward to purchasing a unit, and getting started, again, with this hobby.
Have some very basic, and probably dumb, questions, but would be most grateful for any help.

About to purchase a SDRPlay RSP2 :

a. Can I use, somehow, the unit and software on a Mac ? If so, how, please ?

b. Anyone know if it will work under Parallels ? Or, if it will not ?
(That's the program that creates a virtual Windows10 partition in a Mac)

c. Any technical differences, other than the number of antenna inputs between the RSP1A and the RSP2 ?

d. If, due to cost, I decide on the less expensive RSP1A, how do I handle the single antenna input,
as the antenna requirements for below e.g., 30 MHz is of course very different than that required for the vhf/uhf frequencies ?

e. For the software to operate either of the two units: is there anything else to download and install
other than the basic software package ? e.g., other drivers, etc. ? If so, where do I download from, and how do i install it ?

Much thanks, really appreciate the help,
R. Rose

Hello,

Some answers for you...

a) yes, we have an API/driver download and then an application called CubicSDR download on our website. CubicSDR is a 3rd party application that we recommend for non-Windows platforms.

b) yes, I use parallels in Mac OSX which enables me to run Windows 10 and then I can run SDRuno.7

c) there is a difference in the front end filtering, the RSP2 has an external reference I/O, there are differences in the notch filters. The best thing is to compare the technical information under the relevant product pages on our website.

d) you could either manually switch antennas or via some sort of antenna switch box

e) The RSP will come with a card explaining how to register and download the software from our website.

Hope that helps,

Best regards,

SDRplay Support

Hello,

Great Forum, and folks on.

Want to be sure that I am not missing anything, as I am fairly new to all
of this. Sr. Citizen now, very, and haven't played with SDR for many years, but am getting
started again.

Will be purchasing the RSP2

Am I correct that the only two software packages that will
run directly on a Mac are:
Cubic
SDR Console

Which is more "beginner" oriented and easier to use with a RSP2 ?

*Any others mac software available ?

Thanks, really appreciate the help.
Bob

SDR-Console only runs in Windows.
