Sample Rate issue over 8 value

Post by i4jxe » Tue Jan 15, 2019 12:53 am

My RSP1A doesn't work properly with SR set at 9 or 10.
In every mode, settings or frequency the audio output has a
continuos noisy oscillation at about one half of second period.
The decoding of speechs are slighly distorted in any mode.
Up to 8.000Khz of span no problems, all works fine.
My desktop assembled PC is hardware updated, with a
Ryzen 2700 CPU at 3.7 Ghz and a video card suitable for gaming.
OS is Win10.
USB cable looks of good quality with two ferrite beads
(anyway I've tried with an other one without results).
I will greatly appreciate any help to solve this issue.
TIA
Gabriele

It certainly sounds like a lack of processing power, but the specs of your PC look OK. Have you got any software running in the background? Stuff like real-time virus sweepers are real hogs. What does the processor load say?

HI Andy
Task manager of Win10 shows CPU total usage at 11% (SDRUno shows 10%, 9% the value inside the program).
Total memory in use is 24%.
It seems no heavy process nor antivirus running in background.
Also changing BIOS various settings of CPU and RAM doesn't solve.
It looks like an audio problem, with sound going on and off at 1/2 sec. cycle.
Anyway changing from actual sound device (HDMI) to internal audio device has no effects.
Info in "Main SP" window reports:
Span 10000 Khz FFT8192 Pts RBW 1220,7 Hz Marks 50 Kh
TNX for suggestions

What Frequency are we talking about?

Also did you set the MW notches? If you didn't high output radiostations between 200-1800KHz can and will hinder all other bands and causing spikes.

You may want to reduce the span to about 1000KHz especially on low bands as you open all filters including 0-2 MHz low-pass.

Try small settings until it goes wrong, but beware below 10MHz, then you really want small BW, say 1000KHz or less, not 10000KHz.

There is likely nothing wrong with your computer. The problem is likely with the pre-API crappy SDR play software.

I have an AMD processor, never could get SDRUno 1.22 or earlier to work without hiccups above 4MHZ SR Dec 1, until I installed version 1.23, which uses the SDRplay API service. I see v1.23 is no longer listed as a download but version 1.24 may work for you. Since going to v1.23 my RSP2 can operate at 10MHZ SR Dec 1. I am running a 3.2 Ghz AMD FX-8320E 8 core processor w/16GB Ram.

Well, with version 1.24 the problem is SOLVED !
Thanks a lot for the support.
Without your suggestion I would not even think to try version 1.24
as in download page seems reserved to RSPduo ONLY.
Must say that this option of 10Mhz.span not available was not a matter
of vital importance for me (but anyway useful for an use of RSP1A as a panoramic receiver
of utility stations above 50Mhz. as I do).
