Possible issue with dump1090 v1.45

Post by Patrick73 » Tue Jul 09, 2019 5:46 pm

Hi,

I downloaded lastest SDRuno version as well as Dump1090 v1.45.
Something weird happens when the latter has been running for about 15-20 minutes : its main window on a black background suddenly disappears (I was in front of the screen when it closed itself). but the program remains running. Then, I only have its icon visible at the bottom of the screen. If I click on it, the window no longer opens and I have no choice but to close the application 'wildly'.

This happens even if only Dump1090 works (I mean even if Virtual Radar Server is not running)

Is it a bug or is there something wrong with my set-up ?
How can I make the main black Dump1090 window visible again ? (to close it properly by entering Control C)

My OS is W10 latest release.
RSPduo, SDRuno 1.32 / ADS-B installer v1.45
Attached are 2 screenshots showing Dump1090 normal operation and then only its icon at the bottom of the screen.
Note : I was running Dump1090 in "Stf Perf Interactive Mode".

Thanks for your help.

Hello !

Am I the only one to notice this 'problem' ? It happened again yesterday after 15 to 20 minutes.
Is there another way to 'properly' close Dump1090, considering I can not use Control+C when the window is closed ?

I think this is an issue with the way that the command prompt behaves when the buffer is full. It's strange that the window disappears totally. We've certainly seen the window close up to the title bar and then we have to drag the window height back to where it was.

This will only happen in interactive mode, so you could run it without interactive mode and either look at the data via web interface or pipe it into something like Virtual Radar Server.

You won't see this issue on a non-Windows based system, so it really does seem an issue with the way that the command prompt works with lots of lines written to it.

Best regards,

Thanks for this explanation.

Of course, I first thought the window was hidden somewhere but it looks like it totally disappears. There may be a trick to make it appear again, but I don't know it !
To be honest, I don't need it once Virtual Radar is running but I was afraid to close the application without using the recommanded CTRL+C command. Since I have no other choice, I right-click on the icon a select "close the window" option.

If closing the application in this way is not a problem, that's fine. If it is not, I will follow your advice and use the non-interactive mode.

It sounds like the Dump1090 program has either crashed or been terminated. It must be running to feed tracking data to virtual radar server. You should be able to check it's status in task manager.

Dump1090 continues to work after the window closes since I keep seeing planes on the map. I will check the task manager though, and report here what it says.

You can also check the status here:

The connection status should read 'Connected'. If it says "Connecting" then a connection has not been made

Mike,

FYI, here is a screenshot of the task manager after Dump1090 window disappeared. It all looks fine.
Virstual Radar Server shows the RSPduo status as 'connected'.
