Some Interesting Antennas

Postby Nulluser00 » Tue Apr 16, 2019 6:13 pm

At the moment I have some free time, I had to modify my Ph.D plan, which requires a complete reevaluation. The test instruments needed to perform my original plan don't exist. In the meantime I get to play radio and camp out on mountain tops checked a power line survey.

One of the joy of the SDRplay series of SDRs is their wide frequency coverage. This also can be a source of frustration because very few antennas can cover even part of that frequency range.

A local SWL just received a "Broadband Active Antenna" from Cross Country Wireless.

Since he had to go out of town for a grand daughter's wedding he asked me to check it out.

Like any product designed to cover 200KHz to 1400MHz, there are compromises, and it certainly won't beat a dedicated beam antenna for FHV-UHF, but, it works pretty darn well. It is virtually deaf by the time you drop to 100KHz, but it is a very respectable antenna within the stated frequency coverage.

At ~$200 US it certainly isn't inexpensive, until one considers how well it performs over its specified frequency range.

If I could only have one antenna this would be it!

CCW offers several interesting antennas, I've had a chance to test:

All three more then met the published specifications and are reasonably bullet as to strong MW IMD.

I have no financial interest in Cross Country Wireless

Sorry, I was a bit distracted trying to compare the values these guys measured with SDRuno

FWIW, I' delete this and repost in the proper section, if I could.

Also, perhaps you do not realize, but it looks like an ad to me, better use some restraint. :!:

Perhaps the moderator can do us all a favor and remove this post.

I've emailed the moderator and administrator with a request to delete this thread.

Again, I am sorry for this and this will never happen again.
