I live in "Sheltered Accommodation for the Elderly" which is one of 16 apartments. I am on the second floor and my antenna is a bit of wire, about 60 feet long, thrown over the roof and few with about 5 feet of coax to the window into a 9:1 balun. Works great (well good enough for me ) on both TX and RX, SDRplay uses the same antenna. Hi
I found that the toroid transformer helps a lot in noise reduction
and avoid having a a long exposed wire straight into the RSP.
I use toroids salvaged from energy saving fluorescent lamps.
Grounding the coaxial near the toroid seems useless in fact it makes a ground loop with the computer power supply ground.
May be with a portable it helps.
