Newbie question
Newbie question
Hi, I recently received my SDR and had it working soon after, all is well, now, when reading the documentation there are several warnings regarding not using my transmitting antenna for the SDR. What would be the problem using my transmitting antenna if it was completely disconnected from my radios, after all its just a length of coax into a 1 to 1 balun. This might be a dumb question but if I didn't ask and hooked my outside antenna up I would undoubtedly blow the thing up, its my luck...Any help will be appreciated..
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Newbie question
I think what is meant is an active transmit antenna. You don't want to send high power into your RSP that has a 1mW input limit, hence the warnings. Even if you have a TX/RX switch, it might fail and toast your box. If your "TX antenna" is disconnected from any active transmitting radio, then it's just a regular antenna and okay to connect.

Re: Newbie question
Thanks much for your advice, I thought thats what they meant but with my luck there would be some exotic circuitry in the box that would explode upon connecting the antenna, (kidding of course), even though I knew what they meant its better safe than sorry, so I thought I would ask an expert, thanks again.
