Software news from SDRplay

There is growing interest in remote operation and we have released a new version of the RSP TCP Server.  For anyone new to trying this out, this video guide talks through the process of setting up a Raspberry Pi 3B to do the job at the remote end.  It makes use of the downloadable SD card image which we also provide.

In the video we demonstrate “extended mode” which makes sure you get the full ADC resolution over the internet connection.   Any EXTIO-compatible software can make use of this.

We have provided versions of this server for Windows, Mac and Raspberry Pi.  Just go to our downloads page – and the appropriate tab on: https://sdrplay.com/downloads/ and look for “TCP SERVER V1.0”

Meanwhile, for Andorid device users, we have now released an open beta version of the SDRplay driver which works with SDR Touch for RSP1, RSP1A, RSP2 and RSP2pro.    A version for the RSPduo will be released soon  – more information here: http://www.sdrplay.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4164

1. download and install the SDRplay driver
2. download and install SDR Touch
3. confirm your android device is compatible with OTG cables (unfortunately some are not)
4. connect the RSP via an OTG cable to your android device
5. start the SDRplay driver
6. start SDR Touch
7. Press the power button in SDR Touch

The software still works in basic mode without all the features of the RSP family. However as well as adding the RSPduo, we are working with the SDR Touch software author to get these features added in the future.

It has taken us a long time and we’re very grateful for everyone’s patience, but we really are within a couple of weeks of releasing the long awaited SDRuno Version 1.3 update which includes the much requested scanning feature and an IQ output feature up to 192kHz which will work with programmes like CW scanner.

The introduction of a fast frequency scanner for SDRplay products has been greatly anticipated and this will make  SDRuno the first fully featured SDR package with integrated frequency scanning. The scanner has 2 modes; it can scan an arbitrary frequency range with a defined raster or it can scan through a list of frequencies from the memory panel. It can store found signals, has a number of built in pre-sets (including the marine and air-bands) and has the ability to both wait on signal and hold for a period of time on a signal.  Creating, sharing and storing your own preferred set of frequencies for scanning is straightforward too.

We will get it out to you as quickly as we can, and for those waiting for the features promised in V 1.4, work has been going on behind the scenes.

Here’s a reminder of the SDRuno software roadmap:

Version 1.3 (imminent):
a) I/Q output via audio output for applications such as CWSkimmer
b) Frequency Scanner
c) Move all stored configuration settings from the Windows registry to a .INI file

Version 1.4 (later this year):
a) A re-architectured version of SDRuno which will support 3rd party demodulator ‘plugins’ via a new plugin API
b) Dual stream signal processing for diversity/noise cancellation for the RSPduo
